Frequently Asked Questions
1.) Why different springs for different calibers?
Magic mainsprings are designed specifically for each caliber. Striking a small pistol primer reliably takes less force than striking a large pistol primer. We know this and develope a spring for each caliber, thereby giving you the absolute best spring possible for your rifle and pistol.
2.) Why is the Magic type of mainsprings better than other springs?
Only Magic type mainsprings have been designed for their true intended use. And we make them from a flat / rectangular wire as opposed to the typical round wire design. We do not agree with the "one spring fits all" approach. We have tried those springs, and found them to be good in-general springs, but we wanted something better. Magic delivers a true "Competition Grade" spring.
3.) Why the spacers?
All guns are not the same! Some are slicked up, and some are stock, and some are in between. As a rule of thumb, the spring is for the slicked up gun. Adding a spacer gives the spring a little more striking power, just enough to be reliable and maintain that silky soft stroke. (Note: Marlin Rifle caliber kits, #0009, have only one bushing.New model Vaquero's have just one spacer.)
4.) Do I have to use the Bushing?
Yes you should. Magic is designed with a certain amount of safety margin for reliable performance, and to ride properly on the strut Remove the bushing, and you run the risk of not firing the primer. The second bushing is usually used in a stock gun or one that is just dirty or stubborn. You have to decide for yourself which setup is right for you.
5.) How long does it take to get the spring once I order?
Almost all orders are shipped the same day payment is received. The rest will ship on the next business day. Paying by Paypal (Credit Card) speeds the delivery up even more. The rest is up to Uncle Sam and his pony-less express. Remember, order as many kits as you like, but only pay one shipping charge.
6.) Can I get a discount for ordering more than one spring?
Dealers should e-mail me for dealer discounts.
7.) How do I know if I have the right setup combination of spacers and spring?
You should be watching the spent primers for a good solid strike. If the strike is light, add a spacer. If it is a deep strike, try removing a spacer.
8.) Are the springs the same for the old and new model Vaquero's?
No, these are different models are require different springs.
9.)I need a faster lock time in my pistols, but still want the smooth cocking of the standard set up.
If using a .38/.357 pistol, switch to the .45 caliber pistol springs, or use another spacer. If using a .45 pistol, just add spacers.
10.) I am installing the springs myself, can you help?
Sure, just call me, (517-765-2061) I can give you some tips on installation and further tips on how to help smooth the action.
